Jim Faherty
Gynaecologist
Qualifications: MD, FRANZCOG, FACOG
Mr. Jim Faherty earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours in chemistry from the University of Puget Sound. He earned his Medical Doctorate from The Medical College of Wisconsin where he was awarded the academic honour of being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honour Society. His post-graduate specialty training was in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland.
Mr. Faherty is a Fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RNZCOG).
Mr. Faherty is a Senior Medical Officer at Southland Hospital and also the Clinical Director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service, a role he has held since 2016. He also holds a faculty appointment as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Otago.
Mr Faherty is passionate about the education and training of medical students, House Officers and Registrars. He's a member of multiple RANZCOG Committees directing the healthcare of women in New Zealand. He is also a Trainee Supervisor and has worked in outreach medical education in West Africa and Fiji.

Mr Faherty's clinical interests include all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery, Pelvic Organ Prolapse, Incontinence, Menstrual Disorders and Pelvic Pain.
Personal Profile
Jim and his wife Laura moved to Invercargill for a 12 month sabbatical in 2011. They decided that Invercargill was where they wanted to raise their four daughters and also be closer to Laura's family.
Jim has interests in all things outdoors including cycling, fishing, hunting and skiing.
Mike Stitely
Gynaecologist, Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery
Qualifications: MD, FRANZCOG, FACOG (FPMRS)
Mr Mike Stitely is an American trained Obstetrician-Gynaecologist. He earned his Medical Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and served as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy. He completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He served 16 years in the U.S. Navy, including 8 years of active-duty service, advancing to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Mr. Stitely is an Associate Professor who has worked in academic medicine for over 20 years, most recently with the University of Otago in Dunedin, serving as Head of Department for Women’s and Children’s Health. Active in medical research, he has published 46 peer reviewed articles in various professional journals including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He has developed a patented medical instrument to insert intrauterine contraceptive devices during the immediate postpartum timeframe. He continues to be active in medical research and is currently developing new surgical techniques and medical devices to treat urinary incontinence.
Mr. Stitely is a Fellow of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RNZCOG). He is Board Certified in the subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynaecology) in the U.S.

Personal Profile
Mike and his wife Beth along with their three children, moved from the U.S. to Dunedin in 2011. Mike and Beth shifted to Southland in 2022 and are enjoying the country life with sheep and their dog Bertie. Mike enjoys fishing and playing ice hockey.
